After 12 months of torture to everyone in the world, we are finally saying goodbye to one of the worst years in history. The year didn't start off so bad but we knew it was going to be hell in late January. Australia had a very terrible wildfire which costed $103 billion AUD in damage. In March, things started to get worse when the World Health Organizations declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic. Everyone was panic buying which caused shortages of toilet paper. There were lockdowns around the world that caused people to be unemployed. The second wave of COVID-19 is far more worse than the first. Mask wearing, lockdowns, and police brutality were protested around the world. 2020 was the exact opposite of what it we expected it to be. We all want 2021 to be a way better year than 2020.

2020 Events That Were Not Impacted By COVID-19

 The COVID-19 Pandemic has impacted many holidays and had several events cancelled due to distancing guidelines. However, there were events that took place in the beginning of 2020 when COVID-19 was only an outbreak. 

New Year's Day 2020 - This was the first day of the year and no one knew that a pandemic was going to hit the world at the time. A lot of people thought 2020 was going to be the best year ever. 

77th Golden Globe Awards - This was the first awards ceremony of the 2020 and Ricky Gervais was the host for the fifth and "final" time.

26th Screen Actors Guild Awards

Chinese New Year

62nd Annual Grammy Awards - This ceremony was held on January 26th, 2020. Lizzo received eight nominations and Finneas received six rewards. This was the same day as the death of basketball player Kobe Bryant. 

Super Bowl LIV - There were loud audiences in both the game and the halftime performance. 

92nd Academy Awards

Valentines Day 2020 - You were able to go on a date with your special someone without having to worry about being infected or social distancing.

International Women's Day 2020 - This was the last time when people were able to march without wearing masks or physical distancing. The outbreak was declared a pandemic 3 days later.

The Bankruptcy of JCPenney

 JCPenney is one of America's most popular departments stores. The store chain was founded in April 1902 in Kemmerer Wyoming. JCPenney sells clothing, electronics,furniture, and even jewelry. As of April 2020, there are approximately 840 locations across the United States. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, JCPenney had to temporarily close all there stores. Most of them reopened up on June 17, while over 100 of the stores had to stay closed. JCPenney filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May 2020, causing 242 stores to be closed in the future. In September 2020, Brookfield Property Partners and Simon Property Group purchased JCPenney for $800 million. Because of the purchase, JCPenney will be getting a new headquarters. There will be only 598 locations of JCPenney by 2022. Stores chains can't even go a month being closed without losing income. 

Boxing Day During The COVID-19 Pandemic

 It's that time of the year again for people to go shopping for the best deals. People are more likely to buy furniture and appliances during Boxing Day because they are normally expensive. Stores are always packed during this time of year, just like Black Friday. Most stores extend Boxing Day to a week so no one has to miss out on the incredible offers. There are always individuals who push each other around to get the items first, it's a huge mess. 

COVID-19 is having a big impact on Boxing Day this year. Everyone will have to wear a face covering and follow physical distancing guidelines. COVID-19 cases are rising around the world so it more risky to go out in person to shop. It is for the best that you shop online so you protect yourself and others from getting sick. All stores are working hard to keep everything in stock and delivering the items to the customers. Shopping online for Boxing Day was recommended even before the Pandemic.

Santa Claus Won't Deliver Presents To Poor Families

 Every year children write to Santa Claus asking what they want for Christmas. They will wake up on Christmas morning to unwrap the presents that are the items they asked for. Unfortunately, it's not always that way. Families with financial issues won't get presents from Santa Claus and rich families will get loads of presents. You can be the nicest kid on earth and get barely any presents because your family doesn't have enough family. Santa Claus doesn't rely on elves to make presents, he borrows several parent's credit cards to shop for the items. Parents are still giving the big jolly guy credit anyway. In my opinion, Santa should deliver presents to every person in the world, just like on Fred Claus. This is just an example of  rich people have the time of their lives will poor people can't have any enjoyment. 

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Prank Videos

 Ever Since the begging of the outbreak of the novel Coronavirus which was later named COVID-19, there were internet stars that took an advantage of the disease to get views and attention. These videos would show someone telling another person that they have the Coronavirus to see what that person's reaction would be. A lot of these videos were made back when the epicentre was mainland China and wasn't characterized as a pandemic. Back in the beginning of February 2020, a man pranked a whole flight of passengers saying that he was from Wuhan, China and was later charged with mischief. It is disgusting how people were taking this as a joke when people are actually more likely to die from this virus than the flu. You see these videos very less now as this Pandemic is world-wide health threat.

Fake COVID-19 Vaccines Being Sold

 As a few vaccine candidates to prevent COVID-19 are being approved for emergency use around the world, there are phonies selling what they call vaccines to prevent you from getting sick from the virus that are fraudulent. These fake vaccines are not tested in clinical trials and can be harmful if taken. It seems like scammers have pulled several schemes during this pandemic to make money, but this one has went too far. If you see any vaccine being sold on the internet that claims to give you immunity from COVID-19, don't fall for it and report it as well. Even if they are just selling bottles of water that say "COVID-19 Vaccine" on them is still wrong.

Adobe Flash Player Is Ending After 2020

For many years we relied on Adobe Flash Player to run multimedia content and streaming audio and video. The software was created by Macromedia in 1996 and was purchased by Adobe in 2005. Flash Player would always get an update now and them, but that is will be no more. After December 2020, Adobe will finally end all support for Flash Player and flash content will be blocked from the player on January 12, 2021. This was first announced in July 2017 and reminders began in late 2019, and now the end is nearing. Flash Player brings back so many memories because it ran anything I viewed for the past 10 years. All online multimedia content will now use HTML5. Of course, this is 2020, everything about this year is bad news. Adobe is actually recommending people to remove Flash Player from their system prior to the end date.

Christmas Dinner During The COVID-19 Pandemic

 Every year during the holiday season friends and family gather around the table have a wonderful feast. Mostly Parents and their Children eat Christmas dinner together or extended family members attend as well. This is one of the most important parts of Christmas Day that people have planned. They would go to the store prior to Christmas and buy everything they need to prepare the dinner or they would have catered food. Usually the only thing that would ruin a Christmas dinner would be burnt turkey or a power outage, this year it's something much bigger than that.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, families are questioning if they should carry on with their dinner plans or cancel them. If an infected person comes to the dinner, the whole family could contract COVID-19. The virus affects people in different ways, either mild symptoms or serious complications. World Leaders and Health Officials are urging people not to get together on Christmas to prevent further cases of COVID-19. So many other holidays were affected by this Pandemic and Christmas is about to be the next.

Christmas dinner could still go on as long as safety steps are taken. You can eat dinner with others on a video meeting app like Zoom or Skype, as long as your internet is good. If you still want to be with your family in person, you have to quarantine for 14 days, that means staying home and away from others. If you didn't get to quarantine on time, you could get tested for COVID-19 and if you're negative then you could go. Always keep others safe and never go out if you having any symptoms of COVID-19.

Christmas Shopping During The COVID-19 Pandemic

 Every year during November to December people go shopping to buy items to give to others as presents .They will purchase the item and wrap it up or put it in a gift bag so they can surprise others. It does become a mess when there lineups to purchase the hottest selling item.  Most people are so busy they have to do their christmas shopping the last minute. What makes things worse is the winter weather, you have to shovel the snow before going out and you also have to drive slow.

What will be different about this year's Christmas shopping? The answer is COVID-19. Wearing masks and social distancing is mandatory almost everywhere in the world. People are also being cautious of what they are touching because they fear the virus is on their skin. No one is aware if they are standing close to someone who actually has COVID-19. Christmas shopping during this pandemic is going to be more harder than regular years.

People will be going Christmas shopping this year despite living a new normal life. Most people are ordering the gifts online and having them delivered to their door or curbside pick up. There are still individuals who want to go out physically and buy the gifts, so they need to keep their distance from others and wear face coverings. This virus is real, so wherever you go, please protect yourself and be safe. Christmas is not cancelled this year but its not going to look same.

While in some US states, people are contacted by phone to be informed that they came in to contact with someone that tested positive for COVID-19. There has been cases of people getting calls or texts that are not from certified contact tracers. They would ask you to give them your social security number or pay them because they informed you, a real contact tracer would not do that. Please do not click on the links because it can download malware on your device. Block these numbers at all time. These scammers will take an advantage of any crisis for their own benefit.
