Websites need to have advertisements so they can pay for their servers. Usually websites with free services are more likely to have ads, if they don't have ads then users will have to pay to use the service. All advertisements on websites seem legit and safe, well that is only if it is a popular website. You do need to be aware that some advertisements don't leed to legit websites. If you visit websites that are unpopular or nobody has heard of, you are more likely to encounter a dangerous advertisements. These advertisements are likely to appear as a popup rather then shown on the website. They will claim you won a prize or your PC is infected. These scams created by hackers to steal your personal information. Ad Blockers can't prevent new tab/window advertisements from popping up, so it is best if you avoid visiting websites with these kinds of advertisements.
